A wolf-like dog’s dramatic reaction to meeting her new canine sister for the first time has left people in stitches after her unexpected reaction gained more than 500,000 views on TikTok.
The video, shared by owner Alex, who lives in France, showed the moment Cody, an Old Inuit Dog, first encountered their new Husky Sioux.
Viewers not prepared for Cody’s reaction, as she proceeded to freeze, crouch low, and move sideways away in what viewers quickly dubbed a “crab walk.”
“They actually had officially met just in neutral territory before but this was the first time we brought Sioux into our home,” Alex told Newsweek.
Thanks to Cody’s wolf-like traits, the submissive behavior was not a huge surprise, in fact, owner Alex even called it her “signature” move.
“We were expecting Cody to do her signature submissive ‘crab/drunk walk’ and no ears as she’s always done this with other dogs, especially more confident and bigger ones—hence why we were ready to film,” Alex said. “This is something you can see wolves and wolfdogs doing around other wolves and dogs, but it isn’t necessarily fear or an adverse reaction which might be the case if you saw a ‘normal’ breed acting this way.”
While the hilarious moment prompted viral attention, and gave the owners a smile, it was not long before the pair became the best of friends.
“It was love at first sight. We saw how Cody was with other dogs and felt she needed a dog companion to give her some guidance and to allow her to play how she likes. Cody plays really well with Huskies and Shiba Inus because they’re primitive breeds and like to play rough,” Alex explained. “After this video when Cody got over her initial excitement, Cody became absolutely enamored by Sioux—which is still kind of the case now.”
Now, the pair are barely seen apart, with Cody often found trailing Sioux whatever she is doing and wherever she is going.
“They are completely inseparable. They’ve true siblings and steal each others treats and toys even when they have the same,” Alex said. “We barely watch TV anymore as watching them interact is more entertaining.”
