Mountain Lion / Cougar Hide – North Idaho-Harvested Female (Case Skinned)
This female Mountain Lion (Cougar Hide) pelt, harvested in North Idaho, is a well-preserved and nicely sized specimen featuring heavy February-quality fur and a soft, pale brown coloration. Professionally tanned and case skinned, the pelt measures 68 inches in total length, with a 44-inch nose-to-base-of-tail measurement. In its non-stretched form, it measures 16 inches across the center of the abdomen and has a 24-inch belly circumference just ahead of the hind hips, making it a well-proportioned and compact hide suitable for a range of display or artistic uses.
This Cougar Hide retains all major anatomical features, including feet with claws, turned ears, split lips, and attached genitalia, offering excellent structural completeness. The fur is thick and plush, consistent with a late-winter harvest, and the belly exhibits faint, natural spotting—a highly desirable and visually appealing trait, especially in smaller females. The whiskers are intact, enhancing its suitability for rugging, soft mounting, or life-size taxidermy.
Minor flaws are present but manageable. There is a 3/4″ hole in the left front leg, where the Idaho Fish and Game pelt tag was placed, and the tip of the right ear has slight skin separation from the cartilage, which can be corrected with minimal effort during mounting. In addition, both dew claws and one front claw show light damage from the tanning process, but all can be easily reshaped and smoothed with light sanding.
This hide represents a high-quality smaller lion with beautiful coloration and belly patterning. Ethically harvested and legally sourced under Idaho state regulations, this pelt is ideal for taxidermists, collectors, or crafters seeking a clean, attractive specimen with minimal restoration needs and excellent display potential.
