Mountain Lion / Cougar Fur Pelt – Nevada-Harvested Tom
This premium-quality Mountain Lion (Cougar fur) comes from a large tom harvested in Nevada, offering impressive size, well-preserved features, and excellent winter fur. Measuring 88 inches in total length with a 56–inch nose-to-base-of-tail measurement, this mature tom was taken in December, ensuring a thick, full coat typical of prime winter conditions. The pelt is professionally tanned and remains in its natural, non-stretched state, making it an ideal candidate for rug work or a life-size mount.
This specimen boasts rich medium brown coloration, with well-defined markings and natural depth of tone across the coat. The pelt measures approximately 20 inches across the center of the abdomen and 32 inches across the belly just ahead of the hind hips, reflecting the animal’s size and condition. Anatomical features such as the feet with claws, turned ears, split lips, and split pads are all intact, providing taxidermists and collectors with a complete foundation for various display purposes.
While the pelt is in overall excellent condition, a few minor imperfections are present, consistent with natural wildlife wear. These include four small scar marks (<1/4″) from fighting located between the nose and eyes, a 3/4″ bullet hole that passes through both sides near the center of the abdomen, and a 2″ x 1/2″ drag mark just ahead of the right rear hip. These flaws are minimal and do not detract significantly from the pelt’s visual or structural quality.
This mountain lion pelt represents a superb combination of size, fur quality, and completeness, sourced ethically and legally under state regulations. Whether intended for display, taxidermy, or collection, this piece offers both rugged authenticity and professional-grade craftsmanship for discerning buyers.
