Mountain Lion Tanned Hide – North Idaho-Harvested Tom (Case Skinned)
This North Idaho-harvested tom Mountain Lion tanned hide is a well-preserved example featuring extra heavy March-quality fur, offering superb thickness and texture. The hide is case skinned and professionally tanned, with a total length of 78 inches and a 51-inch nose-to-base-of-tail measurement. In its non-stretched state, the pelt measures 16 inches around the center of the abdomen and 28 inches in belly circumference just ahead of the hind hips, making it an ideal option for a variety of creative or educational uses.
The fur is a rich dark brown with beautiful black-tipped guard hairs, creating natural contrast and depth. Anatomical features include feet, genitalia (with all surrounding fur intact), turned ears, split lips, and an excellent set of intact whiskers. The claws have been removed methodically, leaving only minimal, clean holes where each claw was extracted, making this hide particularly safe for children’s exhibits, educational displays, or craft projects where sharp claws would be a concern.
There are a few notable imperfections on this Mountain Lion tanned hide that should be considered depending on intended use. Both eyeholes are enlarged, though a skilled taxidermist with time and attention to detail could rebuild the area effectively for life-size mounting or rugging. Additionally, there is a 1-inch hole in the front left leg skin, where the IDFG tag was attached. The anus is enlarged, though the surrounding fur remains intact, maintaining visual consistency across the rear of the hide.
Despite the absence of claws and minor eyehole repair needs, this pelt is a versatile and attractive specimen with excellent fur quality and natural coloration. It is suitable for soft mounts, dancing skins, craft applications, or children’s interactive wildlife displays. Its overall completeness and dense, late-season coat make it a valuable addition for collectors, educators, or taxidermists seeking a hide with strong visual appeal and safe handling characteristics.
