XL Skunk Hide – Taxidermy Quality – With Feet & Claws (SNK1008)
This extra-large male skunk hide from Idaho is an impressive, heavy-furred specimen with exceptional hair length and density. Case skinned and well prepared, the hide retains feet, claws, complete genitalia, ears turned, and lips split, making it suitable for advanced taxidermy work despite a few noted cosmetic imperfections.
The pelt features extra-extra heavy winter fur with long guard hairs along the back and a thick, dense underfur. The dorsal fur is especially plush—dense enough to easily bury your hands in—providing excellent coverage and visual impact. The skunk displays wide white stripes that extend the full length of the back, a desirable trait for an Idaho skunk, with a slight natural yellow hue.
Condition Notes:
-
Fur is thinner on the belly
-
Slightly bare areas on the inside of three legs
-
Tail is somewhat thin, with two approximately 2″ × 1″ bare areas just below the base of the tail
-
Two 1″ × 1″ bare areas in the lower back region
-
One 1″ × ½” bare area on the top of the neck/shoulder area
-
Most bare areas are largely concealed by the extremely dense surrounding fur
Assessment & Suitability:
While this hide would otherwise grade as taxidermy quality, the noted bare areas and thinner tail prevent a full #1 designation. However, due to the outstanding fur density, long guard hairs, and overall size, this skunk can still be successfully mounted by a skilled taxidermist and would also be suitable for display or decorative use.
Summary:
A very nice XL Idaho skunk hide with exceptional winter fur, long claws, and strong dorsal coloration. Despite some cosmetic imperfections, the quality of the fur and preparation make this an excellent candidate for experienced taxidermy work or a standout natural display piece.
