Mountain Lion / Cougar Fur Pelt – North Idaho-Harvested Female (Open Skinned)
This female Mountain Lion (Cougar) pelt, harvested in North Idaho, is a beautifully preserved specimen featuring heavy January-quality fur and a striking pale brown coloration. The pelt was open skinned to the base of the neck and professionally tanned, measuring 73 inches in total length with a 47-inch nose-to-base-of-tail dimension. In its non-stretched state, it measures 17 inches across the center of the abdomen and 26 inches in belly circumference just ahead of the hind hips, reflecting a well-conditioned and mature animal.
The hide retains all major anatomical details, including feet with claws, turned ears, split lips, and attached genitalia, making it an excellent candidate for rugging, life-size mounting, or soft mount projects. The fur is thick and full, typical of winter coats from this region, and the pale coloration sets this cat apart—giving it a unique visual appeal. Whiskers are intact, further enhancing its value for display or taxidermy use.
There are a few minor imperfections consistent with field handling and tanning. Both dew claws on the front feet show slight damage from the tannery, but they can be easily restored with light sanding or reshaping. A 3/4″ hole in the right rear leg is present from the Idaho Fish and Game pelt tag, and there is a ~4-inch knife cut along the side of the belly, which is clean and easily repairable with stitching for mounting or crafting purposes.
This mountain lion pelt offers a rare combination of elegant coloration, dense winter fur, and anatomical completeness, making it a desirable option for taxidermists, collectors, and artists. Ethically sourced under regulated Idaho wildlife management practices, this hide is both visually stunning and professionally prepared, ready to be transformed into a beautiful finished piece.
