A rare gun made in Whitehaven is just one of the highlights in Mitchells next Country Sporting Sale.
The Cockermouth saleroom’s auction, from Wednesday April 26 to Friday April 28, also features Wilk hunting cartoons, fishing items, artwork and taxidermy.

William Horton worked as a gun maker in Whitehaven from 1857 until 1864 when he moved to Glasgow.
Auctioneers have given the shotgun a conservative estimate of £200 to £300 however it could sell for considerably more given its rarity.

Other notable shooting lots include a Victorian Bussey Gyro Pigeon launcher, an early form of clay pigeon device invented by Yorkshireman George Bussey in 1872, which is expected to sell for £450 to £500.
