The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center invites the community to experience Art of the Hunt: Preserving Memories, Honoring Tradition, a special exhibition celebrating the artistry of taxidermy and the enduring connections between people, wildlife, and the outdoors.
On display Oct. 20 through Dec. 30, the exhibition features an array of taxidermy mounts, including specimens from local hunters and examples representing wildlife from around the world. Each mount offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship, patience, and attention to detail involved in preserving an animal’s appearance, while reflecting on the memories and traditions connected to the hunt.
Beyond the artistry of taxidermy, the exhibition encourages visitors to consider our relationship with the natural world and the role that wildlife conservation and responsible wildlife management play in preserving these traditions for future generations.

The exhibition also features a special touch area where visitors can explore selected natural materials up close and experience some of the textures associated with wildlife and taxidermy. This hands-on element offers an additional way to engage with the exhibition and discover the craftsmanship behind preserving wildlife.
“The Art of the Hunt is about more than the mounts themselves,” said Robyn Brooks, director of the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center. “It’s about the craftsmanship behind each piece, the memories associated with it, and the connection between people and the natural world. We’re excited to share this exhibition with our community and invite visitors to experience it for themselves.”

The public is invited to a special exhibition reception on Tuesday, November 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening will offer an opportunity to explore the exhibition, celebrate the contributors who helped make it possible, and learn more about the artistry and traditions represented in the gallery. The winner of the exhibition’s hog hunt raffle will also be drawn that evening.
The exhibition will remain on view at the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center through December 30. Community members, families, outdoor enthusiasts, artists, and anyone interested in wildlife and craftsmanship are encouraged to visit.
