A woman has spoken out about her shock after finding a taxidermy giraffe head and neck – from the 21st century – at a Cambridge auction.
The stuffed animal, which stands at 235cm high, is in Cheffins just off Cherry Hinton Road.
It is due to go up for auction tomorrow (Thursday, March 12) and is estimated to be sold for £800-£1,200.
On the Cheffins website, it is described as a taxidermy giraffe shoulder mount in "good overall condition". It is floor standing and is from the 21st century.
A woman who spotted the item, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "It's quite unpleasant to walk around and to see that. Honestly, if you saw it you'd be absolutely shocked. My grandson was very upset about it too.
It is estimated to sell between £800-£1,200
"People are very sensitive to this sort of thing and lots of us have seen David Attenborough. It's a noble beast and some b*stards have gone and stuffed it.
"The worst bit for me is that it's from the last 20 years. If it was a hundred years ago I'd understand a bit more because lots of people shot things back then".
A Cheffins spokesman said: "We are very aware that Taxidermy is a very emotive subject and we take all appropriate measures to ensure all entries in our sales have all the requisite evidence and any necessary licences in place, or that they pre-date licensing requirements."
