MADISON (WKOW) — A man was shot at after a suspect stole his phone during an online marketplace sale Monday night on Madison’s north side.
Officers were called to the area of Huxley and Roth streets around 7:05 p.m., according to a police report. The victim had agreed to meet the suspect in the area to sell a phone.
During their interaction, the suspect grabbed the device and ran away. He then pulled out a gun and fired twice when the victim chased him toward the 900 block of Huxley Street, police reported.
The victim was not hurt in the shooting. Two shell casings were recovered.
Drones, K-9 teams and patrol officers searched the area for the suspect. No arrests have been made at the time of this report.
The Madison Police Department encourages people to buy and sell items in public places, such as police stations. Buyers and sellers should also consider bringing people with them during these transactions and to verify payment went through before leaving.
