JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Brookville Borough police say a local taxidermist is facing dozens of theft-related charges, accused of failing to complete taxidermy work and stealing payments from prospective customers.
Police say the investigation into 53-year-old Chad Kurtz — the owner of Chad Kurtz Taxidermy, in Brookville — began in 2024 following multiple complaints that he took payments from customers without completing the expected taxidermy work.
Investigators say at least 16 victims allegedly provided Kurtz with payments and/or animal hides for taxidermy work that he reportedly failed to complete.
When questioned by the customers, police say Kurtz then reportedly failed to refund their money or return the animal hides.
Investigators say Kurtz is now jailed on multiple counts of deceptive business practices, theft and receiving stolen property.
Officials are asking anyone with information on this investigation, or who might be a victim, to contact the Brookville Police Department at 814-849-5323.
