Along with the Canadian group, Macedonian post-punk/new wave band Bernays Propaganda, local teenage attraction Shin-Ei and Tivat drum’n’bass DJ Chevalier will perform on it.
About the Festival
“Given the rather weak concert offer in Montenegro compared to the region, we decided to present this kind of event to the local audience as part of our organization’s birthday celebration. We decided on Handsome Furs as the headliners of the festival in order to differentiate them from most Montenegrin festivals that are based on bringing in groups from the ex-YU area,” explained Dragan Dubljević, leader of the NGO “Open Sound” and added: “In order to follow the trends in the environment, we were looking for a well-known band from abroad.
I believe that Podgorica and Montenegro need more events like this. The Canadians were an opportunity not to be missed as they are on a Balkan tour with Bernays Propaganda this month”.
This will be the first meeting with Montenegro for the band from Montreal, behind which there are two studio releases highly rated by numerous well-known music magazines (Pitchfork, PopMatters, Spin…). The same applies to Bernays Propaganda, who last year on a Balkan tour promoted their, for now, only studio release “Happiness Machiness” in all countries of the region except here.

“It is also a significant fact that this will be the first contact of the iconic Sub Pop label, under which Handsome Furs are in addition to numerous famous bands, with Montenegro. It is interesting that Canadians are in love with Eastern Europe, which inspired their last album Face Control. On it, among other things, there is also the song White City dedicated to Belgrade”, declared Dubljević, adding that he hoped that love could be born between the Montenegrin audience and the famous Canadian band.
“In any case, this duo is known for their energetic performances and will not leave anyone indifferent,” he said.
At the past two festivals organized by Open Sound, where Arkona, Vuneny, One Piece Puzzle, Popečitelji and others performed, local bands were also given the opportunity, and in this edition the tradition will continue.
“We decided on Shin-Ei as a young Montenegrin band with huge potential, and their sound will fit perfectly with Bernays Propaganda and Handsome Furs”, revealed Dubljević and thanked the sponsors (hotel Bambis, Reviko, Primo Design, Sterling, Soltex , Format and Provod.me).
After the performance of the three bands, DJ Chevalier will be in charge of the afterparty. According to the organizers, the schedule of the festival will be published later on the Open Sound website opensound.webs.com.
Ticket sales will begin on April 15 at the Soul 2 Soul cafe, and the first 33 tickets will be available for purchase at a promotional price of three euros. After that, the ticket price will be a modest five euros.
A pair of tickets will be distributed soon in a raffle on the Vijesti portal.
