{KXLG – Watertown, SD} A local taxidermist has brought home a prestigious silver medal from the international stage. Justin Bach, owner and operator of Bach Taxidermy in Watertown, South Dakota, was awarded second place in the White-Tailed Deer category at the 2024 World Taxidermy Show in Coralville, Iowa.
Bach’s accomplishment is a testament to his skill and dedication to the craft. Securing a silver medal with over 70 entries in the White-Tailed Deer category is a significant achievement. This was Bach’s first time participating in the World Taxidermy Show, a global competition showcasing the finest taxidermy work from around the world.
“It’s very humbling to see so much talent in one room and the amount of work that goes into a show like this,” Bach said. “I definitely picked a great show to attend for my first time competing in the World Taxidermy Show with more than 700 entries, making it the largest world show to date.”
Bach has been a professional taxidermist for 12 years. In addition to his recent success at the World Taxidermy Show, he has also won numerous awards at regional and national competitions, including the Breakthrough Best of Show honors, Pro-1 Award, Artisan Award, and State Champ honors at the 2024 South Dakota Taxidermy Show.
Derick Wenck, a friend who roomed with Bach, said, “What a wonderful achievement! I told his parents last winter that Justin has the ability to win a Best in the World title. I wasn’t far off. Way to go, Justin! I’m super proud of you!”
The World Taxidermy Show is a biennial event that attracts taxidermists from around the globe. The competition features a variety of categories, including mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles. The winners are judged on factors such as realism, accuracy, and artistry.
Bach’s silver medal is a significant accomplishment for himself and the state of South Dakota. His success highlights the talent and skill of local taxidermists and helps to establish South Dakota as a leader in the field.
